When you close it the two pieces click together (it feels magnetic) and then you snap the latch closed. It's very secure and is sterling silver (as you can see on the clasp .925)
The rings attaching the charm to the bracelet are larger than my standard rings and are soldered shut. You have the option to add up to 4 charms when you purchase the bracelet.
Shown with the typewriter font, it can fit about 10 letters curved along the edge.
